Senior Front-End Engineer – React / TypeScript
Sydney | Hybrid
6 month contract with extensions
$800-1000 a day including super DOE

This isn't just another React contract.

We're looking for a Senior Front-End Engineer who can help shape how frontend engineering is done across an entire team.

You'll join a growing engineering function building a sophisticated client-facing platform used to plan, book and measure advertising campaigns.

It's a genuine product engineering environment - not just building screens. You'll be working closely with backend engineers, Product, Design, Data and QA to turn complex business problems into intuitive, scalable web experiences.

What you'll be working on
The platform is built around React and TypeScript, with a Kotlin/Spring Boot backend and GCP infrastructure.
You'll be responsible for building and evolving frontend experiences across the platform, including:
  • Developing new React/TypeScript components
  • Integrating with backend APIs
  • Designing frontend solutions and breaking requirements into technical work
  • Improving frontend performance and scalability
  • Maintaining high standards around testing and code quality
  • Reviewing code and providing constructive feedback
  • Troubleshooting production issues
  • Working closely with backend engineers to deliver features end-to-end
  • Helping establish consistent frontend patterns and practices across squads
But here's the important bit...
They're looking for someone who has a point of view on frontend engineering.
Someone who can look at the way things are being built and say:
"There’s a better way we could do this."
And then explain why, bring people along with them and help implement it.
You'll be expected to:
  • Mentor and coach other engineers
  • Help establish frontend best practices
  • Influence patterns across multiple squads
  • Give constructive technical feedback
  • Work collaboratively rather than operate in isolation
  • Stay hands-on with React and TypeScript
  • Think about the end-to-end user experience, not just the UI layer

You'll probably bring
  • ~6+ years' professional software engineering experience
  • Strong React experience
  • Strong JavaScript / TypeScript
  • Extensive modern frontend development experience
  • Experience building production web applications
  • Strong understanding of frontend architecture and design patterns
  • Testing experience / TDD or BDD awareness
  • Strong API integration experience
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • A willingness to mentor and influence other engineers

Full-stack experience is a big plus, particularly if you're comfortable jumping into backend work when required.
Experience with Next.js, GCP, authentication/authorisation, web performance or modern AI-assisted development would also be highly relevant.

Why this one is interesting
You'll be joining at an interesting point in the team's evolution.
They're establishing common frontend patterns across squads while simultaneously building out a new platform - so you won't simply be inheriting someone else's way of doing things.
You'll have the opportunity to influence the engineering direction while staying genuinely hands-on.
And there's plenty of interesting technical territory: complex data, high-volume metrics, campaign management, reporting, integrations and a client-facing product sitting at the centre of a growing retail business.
Lots of potential for extensions, too!
