The Opportunity
This is a rare chance to be the first data hire into a company with genuinely validated, category defining technology, and shape a Data & Analytics function from the ground up.
Our client is an ASX listed MedTech company with over two decades of expertise in neural signal (sEMG) technology with significant investment in R&D. Their latest innovation, a lightweight, wireless sEMG wearable is already generating real commercial traction with professional sports teams and rehabilitation clients across Australia and the US, with Europe launching soon.
They've built the hardware. They've got the dataset. Now the y are looking for someone to drive commercial value.

The Role
You'll take a complex, proprietary sEMG dataset and turn it into commercial value; building machine learning models, designing client facing dashboards, and shaping the future of the product. This isn't a role where you'll be handed a fully scoped brief and told to execute; you'll be defining what "good" looks like as you go, working closely with the Director of Product and the software engineering team.

You will:
  • Work with a proprietary sEMG dataset to generate commercially valuable insights for sports and rehabilitation customers
  • Develop machine learning models that identify movement patterns, asymmetry, fatigue, activation timing and recovery progress
  • Design and build customer facing reports, visualisations and dashboards that are simple and usable for clinicians, coaches and athletes
  • Generate evidence and analysis that supports product claims
  • Scope, define and prioritise your own work as you build out the function
  • Lay the foundations for an analytics capability that becomes a long term strategic asset for the business
  
About You
This role sits at a rare intersection of skills, and we don't expect a perfect match on paper. What matters most is your ability to work across these areas, even if your background leans more heavily into one or two:
  • Signal processing. You will be comfortable working with raw, noisy sensor or signal data. Strong hands on Python skills, with experience in deep learning (LSTM, GRU, Transformers, RNNs, CNNs, or denoising autoencoders)
  • Human movement science. You will have some grounding in biomechanics, muscle activation, fatigue or recovery patterns (formal qualifications not essential, applied experience counts)
  • Applied machine learning. Practical experience building models that detect patterns, anomalies or trends in complex data, ideally with experience taking models into production alongside software engineers
  • Commercial and product instinct. A genuine interest in translating complex analysis into insights that non technical people can use, via tools like Tableau, Power BI, Matplotlib, Seaborn or Plotly
You'll thrive in this role if you:
  • Enjoy ambiguity and are comfortable scoping your own problems in a small team
  • Have taken analytics from early prototype through to something scalable and production ready
  • Can communicate complex ideas in plain, easy-to-understand language
  • Come from a background in sports science/performance analytics, digital health, wearables, energy or financial signal data, or academic/research paired with private sector experience
